Since its launch in July 2014, Gold Coast Light Rail (GCLR) has transformed public transport on the Gold Coast, creating an integrated multi-modal network that connects more people to more places in one of Australia’s most dynamic and fastest growing cities. As at the 2018-19 financial year, public transport patronage on the Gold Coast has grown over 47% since the introduction of light rail services.
GCLR is the largest transport infrastructure project ever undertaken on the Gold Coast and it was designed to be delivered in stages in response to the city’s forecast population growth.
GCLR was Queensland’s first ever light rail system. Stage 3 of the project involves a 7 km extension in a brownfield urban area from Broadbeach South to Burleigh Heads and includes the procurement of additional light rail vehicles
