The Gateway Upgrade North project involved the widening of the Gateway Motorway, located north east of Brisbane’s city centre, from 4 to 6 lanes between Nudgee and Deagon.
This $1.143 billion project was jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland governments.

The Cycling Infrastructure Policy implemented into the project required the provision of active transport facilities during design and construction. A 3.5m wide off-road shared pedestrian and bicycle riding path was constructed along the length of the project, with connections to existing local bicycle and pedestrian networks.

The Gateway Upgrade North project has significantly improved active transport infrastructure for pedestrians and bicycle riders and provides safe-off road connections for travel to and from the north side of Brisbane.
